QTS DC2N Culvert Rerouting Project

In 2020, QTS Data Centers, a leading provider of data center solutions across the U.S. and Europe, began planning a 900,000-square-foot campus in midtown Atlanta. However, before construction of the data centers could begin, a stormwater culvert that ran beneath one of the data centers had to be relocated. The solution involved uncovering a portion of the culvert and relocating it outside the building footprint.

Temporary Shoring System with Internal Bracing Installed by Schnabel

Brasfield & Gorrie, the general contractor responsible for multiple phases of the project, hired Schnabel to install a temporary shoring system with internal bracing to assist in rerouting the culvert pipe. Schnabel installed approximately 1,000 linear feet of internally braced shoring and over 22,000 square feet of lagging wall as part of the project.

Challenges Faced on the Project

One of the challenges that Schnabel faced on this job was the installing of the braces so they did restrict access to the culvert excavation. This was accomplished by installing the braces above the top of the excavation where the excavation ramp was located.

Fast-Paced Schedule

Despite Atlanta’s wet winter, Schnabel met key milestones within the client’s three-month timeframe. Their shoring system rerouted the CIP culvert, keeping QTS data center construction on schedule.
