At Schnabel, we pride ourselves on building a work culture that fosters collaboration among co-workers and embraces the importance of family. This commitment to a family-friendly environment has helped shape the careers of many, including the father-son duo of Trenton and Jacob Fryer, whose careers with Schnabel are quickly taking off.

Meet Trenton Fryer

Trenton Fryer joined Schnabel’s Group North team in 2023 as a geotechnical construction driller. His journey with Schnabel began after relocating with his wife and youngest daughter across the country to support his stepson’s hockey career. Trenton’s expertise in drilling operations has contributed to significant projects across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, where he is well-known for his commitment and skill on the job.

Meet Jacob Fryer

Jacob Fryer recently joined his father at Schnabel, becoming a field team member for Group North. He began his journey alongside Trenton at the M&T Bank Stadium project in Baltimore. In this role, Jacob assists site superintendents in maintaining safe job sites and operates a variety of tools crucial to help construct Schnabel’s earth retention projects.

How Did They Both End Up Working for Schnabel?

The opportunity for Trenton and Jacob to work together began at the M&T Bank Stadium project, where Trenton noticed an opening for an extra laborer. Jacob, in between other projects at the time, turned out to be the perfect fit for the role. For Trenton, this collaboration was a chance to recreate the success of a past drill team project he had led, this time with his son by his side.

Typical Day of Work for the Fryers

Micropiles

On the job, Trenton and Jacob have different roles. Trenton’s day is spent with drilling operations, while Jacob takes on laborer tasks, assisting in various capacities. They maintain a professional relationship at work, choosing to refer to each other by name rather than “dad” or “son,” to help separate home from work family. Yet, despite this formality, they always look out for each other on the job site.

How Did Working Together Strengthen their Relationship

Working together has been great for both Trenton and Jacob. Trenton reflects on the time he spent on the road when Jacob was growing up, feeling grateful that their work together has given them a second chance to grow closer. For Jacob, this experience has allowed them to think and act in sync, gaining a deeper understanding of each other’s strengths. Trenton fondly remembers learning the trade from his brother, who was his mentor, and now he has the opportunity to pass that legacy on to Jacob, creating memories that mean the world to him.

Projects they’re Proud to have Worked on Together

The Fryers have been involved in several impactful projects, but two stand out for them: The Twin Towers Project in Los Angeles and the M&T Bank Stadium project in Baltimore, MD. These projects helped them meet many professional and personal milestones in their journey together in the construction industry.

What Makes Schnabel Different?

From his very first day at Schnabel, Trenton noticed something different about the company’s culture. His first project in Columbus, Ohio, with team members Carmon Smith, Ivan Espinoza, and Dan Holmes, felt like joining a family. This sense of camaraderie is one of the many reasons Trenton believes Schnabel stands out from other companies.
