Shotcrete Construction Companies

As a premier shotcrete contractor and foundation solutions expert, Schnabel crafts tailored approaches to address challenging project demands. When uneven ground complicates construction, Schnabel installs reliable shotcrete retaining walls to ensure structural stability throughout your project.

Shotcrete, a specially formulated concrete mix, is pneumatically applied to vertical or sloped surfaces and often paired with soil nails to form a secure earth-retention system.

With expertise in geostructural design and construction, Schnabel offers durable shotcrete retaining walls customized to fit the unique needs of your construction project.

PROFESSIONAL SHOTCRETE SOLUTIONS

Shotcrete is a type of concrete with a low slump that is applied using compressed air to spray it onto surfaces. This material is characterized by its low water-to-cement ratio, high cement concentration, and small aggregate size, often no larger than pea gravel. Known for its strength, shotcrete typically achieves compressive strengths exceeding 5,000 psi. Its strong adhesion allows it to stick to vertical and overhead surfaces without the need for formwork. With proper quality control, wall surfaces up to 8 inches thick or more can be built in a single application.

As a skilled shotcrete contractor, Schnabel frequently uses shotcrete to create both temporary and permanent facings on soil nail retention walls, though it is also effective for other types of earth-retaining walls. For soil nail walls, a temporary shotcrete layer between 4 and 6 inches thick is applied directly to the excavated surface. For a permanent structure, an additional 6 to 12 inches of reinforced shotcrete is added after the soil nails and initial shotcrete layer are in place. The final surface of the permanent facing can be customized with finishes like sculpted, stained, gun-finished, or troweled, providing an appearance similar to traditional formed concrete walls.

SHOTCRETE ACHIEVEMENT HIGHLIGHTS

Shotcrete

760 Ralph McGill Blvd | Atlanta, GA

Brasfield & Gorrie, serving as the general contractor for the 760 Ralph McGill Blvd project, enlisted Schnabel to create a durable excavation support system and several shotcrete foundation walls. These features provide essential stability for a substantial underground parking facility that includes 1,250 spaces. Schnabel’s responsibilities encompassed installing over 100,000 square feet of permanent soil nail, rock bolt, and tieback shoring systems, in addition to more than 72,000 square feet of permanent shotcrete foundation walls.

Shotcrete

Riverfront Place | Columbus, GA

Schnabel partnered with general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie to provide excavation support and construct permanent shotcrete walls for the Riverfront Place project. This work was essential for building a 5-story structure and a 7-story commercial office space. By the project’s completion, nearly 39,000 square feet of shotcrete had been installed.

The 725 Ponce project was one of the first projects in Atlanta where Schnabel installed permanent shotcrete walls for the below grade basement of the structure. The basement are typically cast-in-place concrete, however, on this project the shotcrete system proposed by Schnabel improved the overall project budget and schedule.
