Shotcrete Retaining Wall Contractors
With extensive expertise in shotcrete and foundation solutions, Schnabel offers tailored strategies to meet challenging project needs. For construction on uneven terrain, Schnabel provides reliable shotcrete retaining walls that ensure critical project stability.
Shotcrete, a specialized concrete mix, is pneumatically applied to vertical or sloped surfaces. Often paired with soil nails, it forms a secure earth-retention system for lasting support.
Schnabel’s knowledge in geostructural design and construction allows for the design and installation of durable shotcrete retaining walls, each customized to the unique requirements of your project.
PROFESSIONAL SHOTCRETE SOLUTIONS
Shotcrete is a specialized, low-slump concrete mix applied by spraying onto surfaces using compressed air. This mix is characterized by a low water-to-cement ratio, high cement content, and fine aggregate, typically with a maximum size around that of pea gravel. Known for its robust strength, shotcrete generally achieves compressive strengths exceeding 5,000 psi. Its excellent adhesive properties enable it to bond securely to vertical and overhead surfaces without needing formwork. With careful quality control, wall surfaces up to 8 inches thick or more can be built in a single application.
As a skilled shotcrete contractor, Schnabel frequently uses shotcrete for both temporary and permanent facings on soil nail retention walls, as well as various other earth-retaining structures. For soil nail walls, an initial temporary layer of shotcrete, usually 4 to 6 inches thick, is sprayed directly onto the excavated face. For a permanent structure, an additional 6 to 12 inches of reinforced shotcrete is applied after soil nails and the initial layer are installed. The final surface of the permanent facing can be finished in several ways, including sculpted, stained, gun-finished, or troweled, offering a look similar to traditional formed concrete walls.

REMARKABLE SHOTCRETE MILESTONES
760 Ralph McGill Blvd | Atlanta, GA
Schnabel was engaged by Brasfield & Gorrie, the general contractor for the 760 Ralph McGill Blvd project, to design and implement a comprehensive excavation support system and multiple foundation walls using shotcrete. These structural elements are essential for stabilizing an extensive underground parking facility with 1,250 spaces. The project scope for Schnabel involved installing over 100,000 square feet of permanent shoring systems—including soil nails, rock bolts, and tiebacks—alongside more than 72,000 square feet of shotcrete foundation walls for enduring stability.
Riverfront Place | Columbus, GA
Schnabel partnered with general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie to provide excavation support and construct permanent shotcrete walls for the Riverfront Place project. This collaboration was essential in building a 5-story structure and a 7-story office building. Upon project completion, nearly 39,000 square feet of shotcrete was installed.
The 725 Ponce project was one of the first projects in Atlanta where Schnabel installed permanent shotcrete walls for the below grade basement of the structure. The basement are typically cast-in-place concrete, however, on this project the shotcrete system proposed by Schnabel improved the overall project budget and schedule.
