Springfield Creek Lift Station Project

Springfield Creek Lift Station is a key component of the $97 million SCCWWA – Phase 1A project. This project encompasses 17 miles of dual force mains, three lift stations, and a mile of gravity sewer. Upon completion, it will transport wastewater from Springfield to Omaha’s Papillion Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. It will also enable the development of tens of thousands of acres in southern Sarpy County, driving significant regional growth.

Intersecting Circular Secant Pile Shafts Installed by Schnabel

In February 2023, Hawkins Construction Company hired Schnabel to install two intersecting circular secant pile shafts at the Springfield Wastewater Treatment Facility. Using a Bauer BG 33 drill rig, Schnabel completed 3,315 linear feet of drilling and installed a total of 51 piles. Each shaft had a diameter of 23 feet, with an average depth of 65 feet. The secant pile shafts were uniquely designed and installed in a figure-eight shape, an uncommon pattern for this type of construction.

Challenges Faced on the Project

Some difficulties were encountered during drilling due to the presence of 40-45 feet of loose clean sand below the water table. Despite these issues, Schnabel completed the project and maintained an excellent safety record. We appreciate everyone who contributed to the project’s success.
